Customers Reviews 2010-08-16 Does not fit all CR-Vs I bought this bike rack because I was looking for something to use on my 2004 Honda CR-V. The photograph shows this rack mounted on a CR-V, so I thought I was in luck. It turns out, however, the design of the CR-V tailgate varies a lot from year to year and this rack would not mount on the spare tire of the 2004 version without destroying the rear wiper. Thus I returned it. | 2010-08-16 Great Product I bought the Yakima Spare Joe 2 to take my bikes along for a recent road trip. The Joe 2 worked like a dream. It arrived pre-assembled and was very easy to install on my 2001 CRV. It carried 2 adult bikes over 1,700 miles without an issue. Bikes are a little tricky to put on and take off of the rack at first, but you get the hang of it quickly. There is no bike lock with this rack, so theoretically, someone could steal your bikes off the rack. To mitigate this, I purchased a steel cable and a MasterLock for $8 to get the job done. Before I purchased the Joe 2, I read reviews from people wondering whether it would survive a long trip, and it has. I drove from Michigan, to Massachusetts, to North Carolina, and back to Michigan using the Joe 2 and I'm very pleased with its performance. | 2010-07-10 incorrectly advertised This product did not fit my spare tire as advertised.
It should have expressly stated " will only fit 15 inch tires". This was just a waste of my time. By the way I drive a Rav 4. | 2010-01-05 does the job but nothing special I use this on my 2006 Honda CRV to carry my Trek mountain bike. It works well once installed but can be a little tricky to get it on tight and level. When not in use it folds up nice. | 2009-06-10 Works as well as can be expected This bike rack works just fine on my '99 CR-V. It goes on quickly, comes off even quicker and is easy to store. However, any rack that must rely totally on holding onto the spare tire makes me a bit nervous. Would I feel comfomrtable taking two bikes on a long trip? No. But I just use it to take my own bike a few miles from home to the trail now and then. For that sort of use, it is perfect. |
