The latest decision is a bag from a solid material, which inflates in heavy braking. Thus increasing saving friction in this case. If the electronics will understand that a collision is unavoidable, a bag filled with air will raise a car to 3 inches and will not “dive” thus under another car.
According to Ulrich Mellinhoff, head of the safety of Mercedes company, his specialists did not want just to chase for test scores stupidly, filling the interior with airbags to infinity. By the way, many of the developments of a prototype soon will appear on the serial models.
