Car doors fall into a peculiar type of elements which you use every day, but seldom pay any attention to.
You don’t notice it unless you shut it improperly and the lock will make sound on pits and bumps. Another possibility to remember about the doors is when you shut them too hard and the window glass gets shaky.
The first automobiles didn’t have doors at all: the driver’s seat looked more like a bench in a carriage. By the way, even nowadays there are cars without doors - the bolides for lap races, baggy, trophy-raid and army vehicles.

One of the first type of doors is the classic plowing opening against the direction of the movement. Changing in appearance this kind of doors lasted for quite a long – until the 50s of the previous century.

From the 60s the automotive industry introduces the new type of doors – plowing doors opening direction wise. Nowadays such a construction is used in the majority of vehicles and it seems that there will be no substitution to it in the near future.
There is an experimental door construction – so-called “wing”. Though elegant, it is not practical.

The passenger car borrowed movable doors from the commercial transport. And it became quite popular – the type of doors is used even in small city-cars. The thing is that it is very convenient in dense parking. And if the construction is completed with an electric movement, it becomes simply great.

The door type “guillotine” is the widely spread phenomenon for the top sportcars and tuning solutions.

The doors without the glass frame are the only possible variant for convertibles. However, some models with the hard top feature such a kind of doors.

The plowing doors of so-called “gate” type are opened towards each other. The construction is always up-to-date and is constantly attracting the interest of designers. And it is no wonder, because if you remove the central post, the access to the saloon gets incredible comfortable.

At the same time the “butterfly” doors (when the back door is opened direction wise and the front one – against the direction) didn’t have a wide distribution.

The combination of a plowing and movable doors is another modern variant, which has been introduced to cope with the tightness of parking lots.

Neon glow will neither increase the max speed nor increase the power of your car. But it definitely will make your car stand out in the crowd. Let’s see what is neon glow.
It is sold in sets. The set features 2 side lamps, the front and the rear lamps and all the necessary small ironware plus the installation instruction.
The lamps might have inbuilt transformers making the installation easier or might not have. Each neon tube is placed inside the body from a shockproof material, which (in the majority of cases) is able to resist the toughest road conditions. The sets are suitable for the manual installation by the users. For the tuning it is quite cheap (the price of the set is on the average $100- 300), moreover, the sets are quite easy to install, the most complicated part is the choose the place of the installation.
The variants of installation are not limited to the bottom of the car. The set can be used for highlighting truck platforms or engine bay. Neon tubes with wide temperature and brightness range:
- Red
- Pink coral
- Pink Flamingo
- Purple
- Blue
- Light-green
- Azure
- Yellow
- White
The tubes can be from 300 mm to 1660 mm long

The Installation process:
- The tubes are installed with the help of plastic clamps and screws (according to the integration of the set)
- Connect the wires between the tubes
- Install the high-voltage transformer (mounted with 2 bolts under the cowling). Take into consideration that the latter device should be present in the set.
- Connect the wires with the transformer. Install the switch in the saloon of the car, although you can make the following: the glow automatically turns on when the engine is started.
- Connect the wires from the transformer with the switch and connect the system with the power supply system of the car

By the way, there are certain limitations of the bottom neon installation: you must install all the lamps from the set, the wires cannot be prolonged (it will cause the change of the color of neon). If after the installation one of the lamps blinks, it means that one of the lamps is damaged. If you look at it closely you will most definitely see the inner damage. It can be due to the improper deformation of the lamp. The body of the lamp is very durable but it can be bent a little, and this causes the damage to the inner part of the neon tube. The most probable cause of the damage is the improper installation. Each lamp must be fastened in 4 spots according to the instruction.

Can I refresh the image later?
Yes you can. You will have it done in any aerography studio, it doesn’t even matter if it isn’t the studio you were making the images at. Some owners try to cover scrapes over by themselves, but it is not very easy to do neatly.
How to maintain the images fresh for as long as possible?
It looks like there is only one way: use various protective polished. And, of course, try to drive carefully.
Can I change the image?

It is possible to add a few extra details to any images or change the color and the brightness of the background. At last you can even change the image completely and have something brand-new.
Can I remove aerography?
There are so-called temporary images, which are made using special washing off paint. Such an image can be easily removed without leaving traces. Although the drawing of such an image will cost as much as the permanent one, because the work in the both cases is equal.
How much does aerography cost?
Around $200-300 for a small image on the cowling or a wing. And up to $3000-5000 for the aerography on the both sides of the car. Of course, the approach towards the pricing is very individual. The cost depends on the size and the complacency of the image – the number of minor and major heroes, thoroughness of the background etc.
Where can I make aerography?
At first let’s find out who do it. It is done by the painters who have a number of required practical skills. Aerography specialists work for either companies or make single projects.
Thus there are a few types of supply of the kind on the market. The first – studios, which have aerography as their trade. The second – tuning companies, which hire aerography experts. The third – DIY aerography.

Aerography makes the car a worse target for the thieves, doesn’t it?
There isn’t much statistics to prove the fact. First of all, it might be true when the thieves will definitely avoid a car with aerography if they have a choice of similar cars. But if the car is a rear one and is thieved by order, nothing won’t stop the criminals, not aerography indeed.
Moreover, all depends on the size of the image. It matters if the car is covered in images or has a single small print on the cowling or wing.
What should I keep in Mind when I intend to make aerography?

First of all, you’d better realize: that if you get to dislike the image in a week or two you might regret having spoilt the car. Aerography makes a car stand out in a crowd and even a small image can become a special mark. The damage of the image made on more than one element of the body (and especially on the side of the car) leads to inevitable expenses. And eventually the bigger and more expressive the aerography is the harder is the car to sell.

A fire-spitting dragon, medieval battle, naked beauty… What can all these things have in common with a car? The answer is - aerography! Bright images on the bodies of the cars are no longer a rarity, although they still invoke a number of questions
Why an image on a car is called “aerography?”
The word illustrates the way of making the images. It is made by sputtering of the paint under the pressure. Special tool is used for it - an aerograph. In its structure the device is similar to a spray gun, but is adjusted for art work. By the way, there are other words that mean aerography - “airbrushing” or “art-tuning.”

Why aren’t the images made with a brush?
The same reason why the cars themselves are not painted with a brush: the strokes are visible. However, beside an aerograph, a brush can be used for filigree images and minor details.

Are there special “automotive” plots and styles of images?
All the aerography fall into two major groups: commercial and non-commercial. The first one is the advertising of products, companies etc.
Non-commercial aerography in its turn fall into some groups as well. Traditionally popular topic is “nature” - the images of animals and their natural habitats. For instance and shark on the waves, a tiger in the tree, bees above flowers etc. The “industrial” style is also popular: the images of an engine structure on a cowling, the image of various beams, forged wings, riveted hatches.

Another popular style is “military”, where different kinds of camouflage, military accessories and weapons are painted (even battles with soldiers on a battlefield). Sometimes you can encounter even erotics, though the aerography experts say that the demand for such images has sufficiently decreased recently. At the same time surrealistic and abstract painting is gaining popularity rapidly.
It is clear that there are no obvious limits and boundaries – a painting can be a mixture of styles and motives – the same eclecticism as in fine arts. The are no plot and size limits either. It can be a small image of a single item or figure: flame, a butterfly for instance. And visa verse – a huge thematic canvas covering the whole body of the car, where there are a number of heroes, plot, background and the plan uncovers a certain topic.
Who and how defines the style of a certain image?
You can find the image you like yourself – in the Internet, magazines – and ask the master to paint it. Or you can make the image yourself and then elaborate it in the studio. And the last variant is to explain your idea to a professional painter. He will make a number of sketches which can be elaborated by you. Until the client signs the final version of sketches nothing will be painted on the car.

Where aerography is usually applied to?
In general, the most frequent place is a cowling, front and rear wings, doors and a root cover. The car is sometimes totally covered in paintwork including the top, bumpers and rims. There is a special spice for SUVs – the paintwork on the plastic cover of a reserve wheel. Nowadays there is a tendency to apply aerography to rear view mirrors.
What is to be the condition of the car to apply aerography?
There is only one requirement: the element, where aerography is planned to be drawn on, must not feature rust and huge dents.
Is aerography durable?
If it is made in a professional studio using high-quality paints, the image will be as durable as the body paintwork itself. But, of course, corrosion affects aerography. It is not afraid of cleaning and polishing. The only enemy of aerography is road stones and sand which erase the image. Moreover, am image is likely to fade in the sum with time.

What is meant by the quality of aerography?
Beside the artistic merit of the paintwork, the technical component is crucial as well. The quality of aerography is affected by the accuracy of the surface preparation, paintwork applying, drying technology and the quality of the paint used. These factors affect the durability of the aerography.

The purpose of the exhaust system of a car is to discharge gases from the compression chamber. At the same time they solve the problem of exhaust damping.
The movement of the gases in the exhaust pipe is an oscillatory process, which can be synchronized with the oscillatory process of the movement of the gas mixture in order to make the admission process more effective.

The experiments have proved that the length of the pipe does not matter the effectiveness of exhaust.
It is obvious that if there is a resonator put in near valve the torque of the engine will be made higher. It is called a tuned exhaust. If the task is to increase the power of the engine (as for a sport engine), the resonator is adjusted to the falling after the maximum section. Thus prolonging the torque for higher revolution. If the task is to get more powerful engine at low traction, the resonator is placed in a rising section.
As for the noise, it is the purpose of a silencer. It is placed as far as possible from the engine in order to reduce its probable effect on the resonance features. The way the silencer reduces the noise – it directs the sound into a sound-absorbing material (glass wool, for instance).
The practice shows that it is possible to gain 12-15 hp while tuning the exhaust system. Such an increase is enabled owing to the replacement of all the parts of the system (catalyst, resonator etc.)

Still there is another question not yet discussed – the sound. You can make the sound of you car more aggressive and attracting. There a number of variants like Powerful, Remus or Custom exhaust. Powerful, Remus and Supersprint produce universal silencers which is installed instead of the basic device. The producer promises a “more powerful engine”. In fact you are not likely to get dozens of hp, but a great sound is guaranteed. Moreover, you will get a huge “male” under the rear bumper instead of the basic device.

People are eager to individualize their cars: make them more powerful and aggressive. The fans of high speed are always in need of power increase of the basic engine. When the sources of regulations are drained it is high time for forcing – a creative thus costly process.
We’ve all heard about so-called sport exhaust systems. So let’s clear up some info about them.
Cans
A number of manufacturers produce so-called “unoriginal” parts, including tuning (or sport) parts. These companies are really multiple. The most frequent are ASSO, Blitz, HKS, Powerful, Remus, Sebrin, Walker, Ulfer etc.
The majority of tuning silencers are universal. They can be adjusted to each and every car of the appropriate class. The problems can only emerge if the part is too big for the car, but the case are quite rare.
The owner is to determine his preferences – if he wants blued steel, nickel or dim white metal, one or two run-outs, straight or upturned pipes. And, of course, the sound.
Keep in mind: when the silencer works for a while the timbre and key of its sound will slightly change. A number of sites feature sounds of silencers, listen to them and choose the ones you like.
The price depends on the material quality, technology and the brand.
Spiders
The major part of power losses are due in the exhaust collector. In tuning and sport the basic collector is replaced by a so-called spider – the device is different in shape and the order of linking pipes with exhaust windows.
Spiders can be “long” and “short”. If we take, for instance, a 4-cylinder engine, a long spider scheme will be 4->2->1 and the short one – 4->1. A long spider features a linking muff 2->1, and a short one has a more complicated geometry. A short spider is more often used for sport cars. Long spiders are better for amateur tuning as they enable power and torque increase. The physics of the devices are quite complicated so we won’t feed you to the details. And the only question we will answer is “what is the power increase?” The max power increase is around 7%. The direct-flow exhaust system uses wide pipes and low-resistance resonators. Instead of firm connections bumps are used, the latter are quite short-lived.
All these elements are not difficult to install yourself. But, of course, it is much more preferable to visit auto service: comparing to the price of the parts the price of the service is quite reasonable, moreover, the installation process requires some special equipment.

In reality, it is possible to thieve any car. Even if it is impossible to start immediately, it can be put on the other vehicle. The purpose of security systems is to make the mission of the thief so complicated that he/she would give it up. The practice shows that it is possible when the car is equipped with the combination of electronic and mechanic security features.
The possible theft scenarios and the solutions
1. Open a door with a picklock or brake a window, brake the basic lock of the steering wheel and pick the ignition key. Lock the ignition wires. The car starts.
The solution – equip your auto with a security system.
2. The beginning as in 1., but when the door is opened the alarm rings, The lock of the ignition wires doesn’t allow to start the car. The cowling can be opened and accumulator clamp dropped, if the alarm isn’t equipped with autonomous siren.
The solution – equip your car with autonomous alarm.
If the thief will disable the accumulator before the penetration into the car, an autonomous alarm will react at the sag. Moreover, the system will react faster if it is equipped with a hit detector. The conclusion – equip the system with hit detectors. If a window is pressed out cautiously, the hit detector might not react. The thief might take out the player or valuables from the saloon, but in this case the movement detector will react (the movement inside the car or near it).
The conclusion – equip the car with the movement detector.
3. The thief has a scanner – a device which picks the combinations of the radio-signal, one of which is likely to coincide with the code of the alarm. When it happens, the car will be opened as if done by the owner. If the central lock is connected to the alarm, the thief won’t even have to use a picklock. After this the thief continues the scenario 1.
The solution – equip your car with anti-scanner system (which is able to detect harmful devices, and after a while stops reacting to radio-commands).
4. The thief has a code-grabber – a device which stores the code and later on repeats the code imitating a remote control. The thief can intercept the code when the owner uses his remote control.
The solution – equip your car with dynamic alarm code.
5. Electronic methods proved to be ineffective and the thief acts like in 2. His task is to open the cowling as soon as possible, neutralize the alarm and all the locks which don’t allow to start the engine.
The solution:
- Equip the car with the cowling lock
- Equip the car with multi-locks (in order to gain time)
- Install remote wireless blocks. Even if a thief neutralizes the alarm block, he won’t be able to neutralize the independent wireless block.
6. If the thief eventually starts the car, neutralizing the security system, but the car is equipped with transmission or steering control lock, the theft isn’t accomplished yet. The thief will have to open it with either a picklock or other mechanic devices (saw, drill etc.)
The conclusion – the more mechanic devices the car is equipped with the better.
The final conclusion:
It is impossible to make the car 100% resistant to a theft, but it is possible to equip it with a number of devices to gain time. You have to make the time required to thieve your car too much for a thief to try to do it. Statistics show that if a thief is unable to accomplish his target in less that 15 minutes, he gives up!
